Obituary for
Cory Michael Slifko
Cory Michael Slifko of Farmington Minnesota, died unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, November 5th, 2019 at the age of 43. He is survived by his loving wife of sixteen years, Katie (nee: Berge), their two children Ethan age fourteen, and Maya age twelve; parents John Slifko (Sue Sexton), mother Sherry Thompson, step-father Rick Thompson and sister Madison Thompson. Also survived by in-laws Michael and Lavonne Berge; sister in law Hally Marshall (Scott), brothers in law Derek Berge (Jill), Spencer Berge (Bekka) and eight nieces and nephews.
Cory graduated from Rochester Mayo High School in 1994 and later attended college at Rochester and Alexandria Community Colleges focusing on a career in law enforcement. Cory later continued his education by attending Metropolitan State University and was a proud graduate of Northwestern University, Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command. Cory loved spending time with his family, traveling, fishing, golfing, and attending his children’s extracurricular activities. Cory enjoyed giving back to his community by volunteering with Crossroads Church, coaching youth activities and assisting with the annual law enforcement basketball charity event. Family time was precious to Cory and he wouldn’t pass the opportunity to play catch, grab a movie or spend quality time with Ethan and Maya. When it came to family time, no one else could man the grill or make their own drink as Cory was always master of ceremony with his family in his house or yours.
Cory was an exceptional police officer, serving proudly with the South St. Paul Police Department for over twenty years. During his tenure, Cory served as a field training officer, an investigator and most recently as a sergeant providing guidance and oversight to multiple specialty units within the department. Cory was recognized countless times throughout his career by his peers within the department, other law enforcement agencies, and the community in general. As he will be with his family, Cory will be sorely missed by his law enforcement family as well.
