Obituary for
Stephen Andrew Hanson
Stephen Andrew Hanson was born on August 13, 1938 in the family farmhouse in Spring Valley, Wisconsin. He spent his formative years in Spring Valley and went to college at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. After graduating with a degree in Chemistry, he found employment in the Twin Cities, across the border in Minnesota. He met Donna Ann Knight at a dance class in 1969, and the two were married on June 27th, 1970. The newlyweds settled into an apartment in West St. Paul, MN, and soon added to their family with the birth of Stephanie Anne Hanson on July 28th, 1971. They then moved their growing family into a house they built in the city of Oakdale, MN. Their second child, Scott Andrew Hanson, was born on July 7, 1974, and their family was complete.
Steve worked as a chemist at several companies in the Twin Cities, namely Rayette, MultiClean, Brissman Kennedy, and finally at his own company, North Country Labs. He had many interests outside of work, especially tending to his beloved garden with Donna at the farm in Spring Valley. He also enjoyed making maple syrup every Spring, fishing for trout, and competing in bowling and golf leagues for many years. He was a very proud veteran of the Army National Guard.
Although suffering from dementia and aphasia, Steve’s last few years were spent loving on his many young grandchildren, whom he adored, even if that wasn’t always apparent. Steve Hanson passed away peacefully on January 12, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Rogna, and stepfather Conrad Jacobsen. He is survived by his wife Donna; daughter Stephanie (Boyd) Weiger; son Scott (Connie) Hanson; grandchildren Kaytlin Winkels, Erin and Molly Weiger, and Chelsea, Nathaniel, Jessica and Emily Hanson.
Steve’s infectious laugh will be missed by all who knew him.Memorial Service 1:00 p.m. Thursday January 18th at AUGUSTANA LUTHERA CHURCH 1400 South Robert Street, West St Paul.
